Where is the Sleepy Burrows sanctuary located?

Sleepy Burrows is located near Gundaroo, New South Wales (NSW), Australia. Gundaroo is approximately 35-kilometres northeast of Canberra.

Is it possible to visit the sanctuary?

Yes. Educational visits can be arranged (subject to staff availability). Visitors to the sanctuary must be at least 16 years of age. Bookings are essential. Please contact the sanctuary via the ‘Contact’ page.

Is it possible to volunteer at the sanctuary?

Yes. Volunteers are welcome at our periodic volunteer days (working bees), where we aim to knock over a lot of physical work. Availability is limited for these days and we prioritise over volunteers who regularly assist the sanctuary.

Does Sleepy Burrows follow the Code of Practice for Injured, Sick and Orphaned Wombats (NSW)?

Yes, the sanctuary always works in the best interest of the animals.

Which government license does Sleepy Burrows hold?

Sleepy Burrows holds a Wildlife Rehabilitation licence (NSW).

Is Sleepy Burrows a member of Native Animal Rescue Group (NARG)?

Yes, it is.

What should I do if I find an injured or sick wombat?

It is best not to approach or touch an adult or joey wombat in distress. Instead, please call Donna on 0419 448 117. If she is not in your area, she will direct your call to the relevant organisation to assist you immediately.

Besides wombats, does Sleepy Burrows save other animals?

Sleepy Burrows never turns any animal in need away however we prioritise in working with wombats. If any other animals are handed in to the sanctuary, they are passed on to the relevant wildlife organisations within the area.

Do I have to reside in Australia to become a Wombassador?

Absolutely not! We welcome Wombassadors from all over the world.

How do I pay to become a Wombassador?

Payment can be made via bank transfer, PayPal or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express).

Is Sleepy Burrows open to commercial sponsorship?

Yes. We currently have two commercial sponsors – Illawarra Fly Treetop Adventures and Atlassian – but we’re currently in need of further support.

Is it possible to fundraise on behalf of Sleepy Burrows?

Yes it is, provided the fundraising activity is legal and auditable. All fundraising activities must be approved by Sleepy Burrows management.
